Ok so in the interest of theorycrafting: what if what Sendo has a “half-way” strategy? I mean half-way in that he can make a motion that goes to half-way and then stops, but can be resumed and still not lose power. When Ippo was caught off guard by that feint, it was a smash that came from Sendo’s already outstretched arm. SO what if that means that if Sendo throws a punch meant to be a feint, and Ricardo responds, he can turn that “half-way” thrown punch into a full power one? They kept talking about “Pulling punches” before the spar started and I thought that was a bit of funny phrasing, but it makes some sense if we view it this way: Sendo pulling punches is literally him engaging with a punch then having the option of either continuing with it or switching to a different one, not that EITHER punch is less lethal but BOTH bunches are just as lethal.
Ricardo does this thing where he watches, makes a note, then pulls off a plan, right? But like in fighting games, if your plan of defense leads to a 50/50 then you can execute perfectly and still just make the wrong choice in the end. To avoid the 50/50 you have to engage and be more offensive, but then that technically has the chance of making you more vulnerable.
No idea what the actual plan is or how the fight will go, but this thought just struck me as “it could work”.
