What a trash ref, from start to finish. Of all the blatant fouls in the match he disqualifies someone for not waiting for the signal. You see several “clean” fighters do that in other matches without even an implication it is foul-worthy.

The match was out of control because the ref did not keep a handle on it and then decided to penalize the guy that came out on top. Trash.

Also was kind of ridiculous how it seemed like the author was trying to work in some sympathy for Sawamura (oh, he worked harder than ever, so just forget about him instigating the fouls and committing the worst of them).

Otherwise was a great match. One of the best.

Easily in the top 5 best fights in Ippo. Fantastic all the way through between the technical display we saw at the start to the evolution of a bloodthirsty brawl, ultimately displaying each of their unique perspectives towards boxing and the fight. Sawamura becoming more human as he realized his desire to reach the same heights as Ippo while Mashiba returning to his roots of violence as he wants revenge for Kumi, representative in their fighting styles towards the end too. Both of them having similar backstories and both having found their places due to boxing and their experiences with Ippo. Just fantastic all around.

Sawamura was caught cheating multiple times throughout the fight but when Mashiba starts the fight early again(something sawamura did earlier in the match) he gets disqualified; Fuck this ref. Also this was a 10/10 fight

They were both cheating like crazy but Mashiba's fouls gave him a greater advantage than Sawamura's.

If both fighters are fouling an equal amount of times, theres nothing a ref can do. If a ref gives both fighters penalties it doesn't mean anything if they both have the same ones, and the ref can't disqualify both fighters.
