As much as I dislike the Aoki and Kimura clowning, at least they can be (somewhat) explained away as low-mid national rank matches. Everything Takamura does would be fodder for explaining why someone lost if anyone but he did it. Failed weight management. Not sparring. Not respecting his opponent. Not listening to his trainer / corner. Focusing on his costume / image more than the fight. Going for flashy blows over effective basics. And that’s for the world title.
I don’t care how exceptional Takamura is meant to be, he makes the whole boxing scene seem like a joke, and anyone else’s success near meaningless. That goes double for the message the author was trying to give about the value of hard work, guts, an effective bond with your corner, etc that was being told in the Miyata match. None of that matters because you can be a clown and sail your way from world title to world title.
