Ippo is such a masochist.

And he has it backwards: slapping the kid was entirely moral, but almost certainly illegal.

Ippo wants to punished if he does wrong by the "proper people". As this kid's coach and mentor, Ippo almost certainly could be classed one of the "proper people" to have meted out some punishment on him (the slap) for his fighting and general dickishness. Ippo needs to realize that bad people are stopped and get punished only when good people say "no more" and hand out those punishments.

Ippo refuses to take responsibility .

The former japanese feather-weight champion of japan just bitch slapped a 15 year old kid with full force, he doesn't even remember what he did so for all he knows he could've hit him with a dempsey roll
i'd say it's entirely reasonable to assume that ippo feels guilty about it, specially since he is a big bitch about using violence outside of the ring
unless it's takamura doing it then it's fine

its fine feeling some guilt after realising what hes done, but its unrealistic him completely forgetting what lead to that point. He taught the supposed reformed delinquent how to box which is very dangerous and the kid abused it, the kid coulda killed someone so ippo has a right to feel angry but the way this guy wallows in his self pity its annoying. Its like someone who wants to stay depressed always purposely being pessimistic.
