The author is VERY aware of the community's hatred for the 'ninja arc'. That letter was quite categorical about the general opinion of everyone (at least from the Western group that participated in my survey). If he does something like that again, he's a real madman. But I highly doubt that anything similar to that will happen. It really seems like he wants to change the direction for the good.

The image is from his draft of chapter 174, so I don't know anything to tell you for now.
