So why, in these types of scenarios, don't mangaka with health issues hire another artist to help them with the drawing part, and the OG author stays as the "director"?

this series isn't serialized anywhere and hasn't ever had a publication schedule and there being months between updates is normal. there was around a year between two of the chapters at one point. the author just posts pages or art on twitter whenever
