As for now Ozu looks like the only decent man between many of the introduced characters. And its quite implemented that he is not the typical japanese (introducing speach, his straightforwardness, Hara's thought "Does he is an idiot?). But its from the western side of view.
Wondering how native japanese could desribe the nuances of the story... May be extremelly wrong (and i'm very sorry if it offended anyone), but I suppose that cheating and messing around with schoolers could have the roots in japanese set of mind. Yes, the influence of western side of view have chanded and continually changing it more with every year, but... first of all, manga was published in the 2005-2008. Its already means 10 years to the past from now (and they are 23+ at this monent)... and look -- there are friend's jokes about schoolgirls (and if they are serious, that is UNACCEPTABLE, expessialy for the teachers) but mans are damn serious about "you just do dogeza", and two woman side of view "what to do, what to do... he could cheat" from 23s Kaori and more adult Takako's "he is not the type to cheat")... if yes, this is not "he is the decent man", but... "he is STRANGE"...

For now i woudn't blame Hara too much. We still doesn't know her full story. Ofc, she deserve some of blame being involved with adultery, thincking about woing somebode engaged-bf away etc (not to speak of possibly mess with Kurosawa from the high-scool time, but it was not confirmed or opposed yet). But it just looks like she is a not ideal real person.
But Kaori not letting him sleep after overtime and being over-jealous and insisting on the opening speech... as for now Takako just looks like more dependable woman for long term and marriage (and she is the woman, when Kaori's showed mindset is not fully adult, imho). Ofc, we don't know their full story, and may be Kaori is brilliant despite her downsides.

Well we know she knew about the student teacher relationship when she was in school, and we know she fucked another womans husband while knowing their circumstances and is just trying to get married before she ends up old and alone like the rest of the teaching staff.

In the same time Kaori so far was a plot device, and looks... hm... not a very smart choising for marriage if it is not a shotgun (and it is not). She still needs to grow up her mind. Btw she is just 1 year younger than Ozu, but look at him and look at her...
