I can understand being seriously pissed off at Ruby's attitude from a reader's perspective, but I can totally see how a kid with her age and background reached her conclusions. I don't need to hate Ruby to feel terribly sorry for what has just happened to Hana.

Yes, Ruby may be in the wrong, but you can't particularly blame her either. She's way too young to truly grasp the gravity of her situation since she's never known anything other than her isolation and rejection in the lab. In that case it's only natural to cling to the first showing of love and care and try to keep it no matter what. Using Hana to get what she wants is wrong, but it's not like Ruby ever had a chance to be taught right and wrong. In my eyes all the kids from the lab are sympathetic characters who are victims of their circumstances and ought to be afforded a little more grace than normal. After all, she's just a kid

I mean that's a child. Children can be very cruel and selfish, but it's rarely is it because they want to cause harm like adult cruelty. Idk it seems very immature for a grownass adult to genuinely beef with a kid. As if there weren't people who needed to be just as if not more patient with them as a kid. And if you grow up in a situation where the adults snap at you for every little thing, that is even worse and you know the effects of growing up like that.

Like yeah obviously Ruby did something real awful, and Murasaki is not who she should stay with after this for multiple reasons. But how could she have known that when only one adult has ever showed her kindness. People treat animals who act like this with more respect than children I stg

like everyone else said, its like yeah, what ruby did is cruel and sucks. no argument there. but at the end of the day, much like hana, she too is just a traumatised baby trying to latch on to who she feels is her saviour. kids cant be expected to have the same maturity as we do. she sees hana as trying to take murasaki away from her, so she lashes out. she has no way of knowing murasaki actually hates kids and shouldnt take care of one. all she knows is murasaki was nice to her, and gave her hope. the same people ragging on ruby are just like murasaki in this chapter. ill never understand peoples intense hatred for kids, kids like ruby in particular. to hold so much contempt and cruelty in ur heart for someone whos only existed for less than a decade?? i dont get it
