Insecurity about being the 'replacement'/second choice aside, i can imagine some ppl being confident enough to be like "Choose me instead/why don't we try?" If not some "popular senpai/school prince"/archetype where they're more acquaintances/not as close but some 'playboy' (well playgirl?) type chara that wants to 'distract' them with a fling and they both end up falling for real
