Author trying to save face and turn things around for the Hayami fans? I guess it makes sense how they've built Hagiwara to be able to focus without Hamaji there and achieve what she wants. I guess it was all about the timing. if Hamaji confessed two arcs before just after around when Hamaji and Hayami are distancing themselves, it would've gone the way Hamaji wants.

She fucking kissed him when he was in a relationship with Hayami and disturbed his thoughts and was basically a homewrecker. Hayami died for this BTW. Author sidelined her, only for Hamaji to go to a girl who cares more about her water polo ability than him, as if one couldn't just do both. What a terrible character.

On one hand, I am kinda glad she rejected him, because now there's the hope for Hayami still alive, even if just barely.
