Stupid reason? I think any reasonable person would find her shameless as hell.

Like this manga or not, you can't rly argue that the mother isn't shameless and the main character isn't a doormat.
I'm not talking about calling her shameless, I'm talking about the people who make stuff up/assume stuff just to hate, like saying she is a leech who don't contribute when is stated that she has a job and there is no info on the living arrangements to say that she isn't contributing, or the people who manage to find something to get mad in a chapter where she barely appeared and only had 1 conversation

Yeah, the mom isn't a great person, but she is far from the picture that the past chapters comments painted.

I'm glad that the comments have simmered down a little lol (at least comparison to what they were in previous chapters)
Yeah the entire situation is kind of removed from reality but that's kind of the point, imo the only real issue is whether or not kyou is contributing (financially) with rent/utilities/groceries (I can't remember if this has been addressed already)
Also I kind of wish the mangaka at least tried to draw kyou like a woman in her mid thirties...

To be fair, it's kind of the author's fault for not giving more context/info on that. The author seriously makes her look like a leech, and it's already been 7 chapters.

Does she pay for rent and/or food? Is she putting in actual effort in finding a new place to live? Why go to someone she hasn't seen for 17 years instead of anyone else? Was he really her only option? We still don't know (we see her looking for a new place in this new chapter, but it doesn't look like she's serious about it).

It feels like the author thinks that from the premise is all fine and wholesome from the get-go, even at face value with no elaboration. Like he can skip many important details and just jump straight to the fluff.

Even if the house expenses situation wasn't made clear, we know that she has a job, so she has the means to contribute to the house, people are just assuming the worst possibilities to have an excuse to hate, like how the manga portrayed her as an shameless airhead, yet comments paint her as some malicious manipulator that is only using MC after abandoning him 17 years ago

Here we are with chapter 7! I guess this one would qualify as filler, although it's not as if we are moving the story along at neck-breaking pace in the other chapters either. It's weird to see that they live together, yet they know next to nothing about each other's routine. Kyou "I didn't know you leave the house." and him having to guess if she was at work sure hit funny. Usually, you'd share info about where you are to the person hosting you, especially since your daughter is also living there, and if there is an emergency you'd want to be easy to track down (even in the age of smartphones), but whatever.

At least Kyou is actively trying to find a place now, and we know she is trying to avoid something too expensive or too small, which sounds actually sensible, so good job, girl! The fact that she only thought about her daughter being inconvenienced by staying is a bit sad, but then again the guy is super cool with whatever they do, so at this point it's probably okay to not consider him much in this calculation. I don't see why Midori should cry if they stay longer but hey, maybe her father IS dead like some people were speculating, so anything remotely father-like can be a problem, regardless of what Kyou herself is feeling toward our doormat protagonist.

It's kind of funny how by this point she has done absolutely nothing for him, while he is constantly having to help her, cheer her up or help solve minor issues along the way. Even he can only imagine a future where she starves if left to her own devices. Competence, thy name is Kyou!

All in all, this might be the best chapter so far, simply because it doesn't linger too much on elements which would raise an eyebrow. It's not a great chapter, mind you (it feels like a recap of previous elements and little else), but at least we are getting past the ultra-awkward premise. I am sure we'll find ways to circle back to it and ignore any/all issues with it, however that's it for now. I wonder if this lull is also the reason why the comments aren't as funny as usual...

The problem is that people wanted a huge lore dump intro in a 4-koma manga. The author makes her look unreliable, but the "leech" stuff is entirely made up by people that didn't like her in the first place.

Does she pay for rent and/or food? Is she putting in actual effort in finding a new place to live? We still don't know (we see her looking for a new place in this new chapter, but it doesn't look like she's serious about it).
Their living expenses weren't brought up because they aren't important. Assuming she is paying her way resolves the issue completely. I assume "dad" was a deadbeat that's been gone for most, if not all, of the girl's life. Until something comes up, I'll assume he's irrelevant to the story. Also, it's not that Kyou isn't taking it seriously, finding the right balance between size & cost is important & she seems aware that she'll have to settle for "good enough" sooner or later.

It feels like the author thinks that from the premise is all fine and wholesome from the get-go, even at face value with no elaboration. Like he can skip many important details and just jump straight to the fluff.
Because it is? The premise is goofy & the writing is aware of it. Most of what people are fixating on AREN'T important details.

There's still a lot of missing context/info is probably why.

"There has to be more to this bullshit/stupid premise" is probably the feeling.

'Cause you gotta admit that at face value, the premise of this is pretty fucking absurd.
Imma welcome a FLING with a daughter of minor age to my home 'cause I like her SWEET SMILE!

He still forgot to ask the most important thing 😭 where's the husband? Passed away? Got dumped? Why don't you live with your parents? The irresponsibility of her is showing goddamn
From Minori's comment about Kyou marrying Takuharu it would be logical to assume that either they divorced, he died, or she never married. In those situations she could marry but if they were on the run or if the husband had disappeared the marriage was not dissolved she could not.

Minori is 14 which is young but old enough to figure this out, especially since she been stewing over since the night before and has a little time to think about it. At least that's my opinion. Let's see what the mangaka has to say about it.

i think that there's close to a 100% chance that kyou ends up just paying him rent at this point

yeah i don't know why people think that there's a husband in the picture, the last chapter only makes sense if kyou is a single mom. i think you could also probably read it as kyou having always been a single mom since minori freaks out at the prospect of them even dating. having a dad or her mom just having a boyfriend seem like totally foreign concepts to her

I'm gonna pretend I'm like those JP dwibs that avoid the issue:

"I do not lift the cat on the waist. My cats hate it, they feel strangled. I always scruffle them while having the other hand supporting the base of the tail. They don't fight that way. Plus it reminds them of HOW THEIR MOTHER really took care of them."

Still doesn't explain why she didn't look for an apartment in the first place instead of leaving all her hope for an out of contact 17 year old ex. I really hope the author doesn't plan on stretching out the "mystery" for dozens of chapters
