So like.... That's literally Ewie's Daughter-in-law, right? This family tree is about to become complicated and I'm living for it.

My main problem with this series (besides the questionable societal basis for autocratic rule) is....
Why do the villains have to be so incompetent?
We've all seen the "Devil Wears Prada" right? The lady in that who's supposed to be a rough movie version of Anna Wintour is clearly a despicable piece of crap - she's a horrible horrible person. And yet the one thing about her that is any good is that she is a fashion maestro. She could literally dress a vagrant in binbags and do a "derelicte" and make them look fabulous daahling... Just because she's evil doesnt mean that she's incompetent. Fashion is fashion is fashion and doesnt adhere to any moralistic values of good and evil.
So why does the villain in this story have to be so damn crap at the one thing he's supposed to be the arbiter of?
Why couldnt he just dress everyone up in Hugo Boss Fascist uniforms so that we can see that a) he's evil and yet b) he's capable of making people look good
Instead he dresses him in some weird Mumu looking thing with gems glued on!! I prefer my villains to have some basic ability....

Because he IS incompetent at the job and is completely blinded by greed.

He can't actually do the family's embroidery, he's using something else.

Remember some chapters ago with the weird girl with giant spider on her?

It's revealed later she has the power to draw in and drain spirits' power.
And this trash has been using her to power his spider.

That's why the spirits Yui saw when she reincarnated all look worn out/wearing torn clothes.

And in later chapters the trash seem to have abused that power too much that the girl's owner pointed out "there's no spirits left nearby" (whether they're all 'dead' or they've ran away I don't know yet, but I assume some of the smol spirits near Yui when she first reveal the divine protection embroidery were the ones who she saved)

EDIT: While going back to check, the weaken spirit and people with power to steal power from spirit got mentioned back in ch 3,and Yui already suspected the parents might be doing exactly that. So the later chapter is just confirming 'yea she right'

I still don't quite get how someone making magical clothes with demonic spider spunk makes them so powerful as to become Royalty??
I know this is late, but it does not.
It makes them valuable if the magic is powerful enough. Butt here are requirements to the power other then just using a demonic spider.

Yui can heal and nurture the demonic spiders into a not-so demonic state (so could the families founder), that state and her affect on/interactions with other spirits (they really like her) is brings it to the level that royals say "Not yours, She is ours".

The family was just using the spiders, and have been weakening to the point the king was going to take away their peerage (the nation has 2 types and theirs is dependent on keeping up the level of their products, which they have not, and they already been demoted twice for that deuteriation but still have the pride of their non-demoted status as the first one should be a WTF what happened and how do we fix it) but their pride is keeping them form realizing they have been in danger for a while.
Why do the villains have to be so incompetent?
That is assuming they are the villains of the story, but their issue is not incompetence, but pride and arrogance. Their skill is deteriorating, but they are not exactly facing any real competition. That they are aware of.

Monopolies and labour shortages do not really inspire the best product, just a good enough one that people keep buying as it is their only option.

Though they are kind already of at the point that they are too much of a issue for what they provide. TI is just that until the king makes a move, the rest of the nobles will merely gossip and spread rumors (which does make their situation worse).
