This was an abrupt ending, yes. But it can't be helped if the author felt like she had already said everything she wanted to say. On the other hand, I never got a feeling this would be any kind of complete story of Nagai's life. One thing I have to note, though, is that this ending didn't really concretely show much of anything that would indicate Hinohara and Nagai would become a couple later. Without knowing Nagai is really stubborn, this would look like a completely aromantic ending. While I know Hinohara's way of cutting off Nagai was pretty much the only thing that would work with a bullheaded guy like Nagai (and moreover, she needed to do it for herself, to be able to let go of him), it wasn't very satisfying to read. It kind of made me root for Shouko instead.

I'm kinda feeling the same. It doesn't feel like they would end up together and in the middle of the chapter I started wishing for Shouko end instead... The chapter would end on a fine note if that page with her was the last one. Even though I was hardcore sensei believer earlier.

Hey, mangaka if you life is in danger blink twice ! 🕵️‍♀️

no really, it really feel like this chapter the writer want to write them together but can't make it. Like it is design to be cut off Because it would be "grooming" :pepehmm:. Heck you could make it look like he end up with other girl with some easy change in dialog in, like if it release in another country and they give it an inaccurate translation.

Heck, someone even think it doesn't look like they will be together. but there are subtext say they are indeed "reunion". if you take his word, "is this enough", all this time he take her words and grow to be her equal, not the kid so not put her in bad position. and the whole thing "This is where it all begin" like come on, that was kind of obviously. It show they are mean to be endgame here.
Especially he ask, is this enough (to "chase" her now) and she say not even close, but blush and say he should keep up. and it end with they do the thing that bond them together all this time. Why this write it such in hidden way though, is beyond me. As author already make a age gab couple sail, I mean she is his teacher, who is with him all the time in his most growing phase, so i guess in-universe she is pretty fucked would words spread back in the day

I think the ending is fine, honestly. Sensei did the right thing and kept it appropriate, Nagai got to grow up some more with some time and distance and decided to still pursue her after starting on his career path. Would it have been nice to see them actually get together? Sure, but it bothers me less in a short manga like this than a 200 chapter manga ending on the confession.
Maybe we'll get a little epilogue at some point?

Thanks for the scanlation!

Thanks for the translation Daphie.

That was, very disappointing, 2 years, 7 chapters, there was progress but it was very little, then they include a timeskip and all for a nothing burger.

Coming from the author of 14 Sai No Koi I am honestly almost speechless, it doesn't look like it was the same person who could quickly create a short, but very sweet and intense story in Game Over that in spite its short lenght covered an entire relationship up to the Marriage.

This feels many step backward compared to that work, I had high hopes for a spinoff that could properly focus on these two, but we didn't get really anything extra, again the way this spinoff developes is devoid of the various great traits of her previous stories, a couple that actually gets together before the end of the story and that faces the adversities that arise from their relationship, together, especially in Game Over we see two people that once they find each other, they don't just wait for the arbitrary event (festival, holiday, etc) to push things forward but does it out of their own volition.

Too often authors like to not actually DRAW what readers have to imagine in their headcanon, yes don't draw in a visual medium, it can work, let the imagination work, but is so played out these days and all too often it smells like they lost steam, they don't know how to make it work, I just don't understand what was achieved here that we couldn't get from 14 sai no koi?

If you haven't read anything else by the author see "Game Over" and then "14 Sai No Koi", you won't be disappointed.

This much subtlety and reading between the lines is too much for my adhd zoomer coomer brain. I’m not a literature major, I need that gratification of them actually and obviously being together because honestly that’s why I read stories like this. The story is not a profound or novel concept to have an implied ending like this so it feels a bit disappointing rather than thought provoking.

Went from 9/10 to 6/10 in the span of a single chapter.
