Looking at this expression and in context with the chapter, I'm guessing he is forcing himself to like books to share the same hobby as his daughter.

Looking at this expression and in context with the chapter, I'm guessing he is forcing himself to like books to share the same hobby as his daughter.

Or some documentation he has to read for his job. Telling his daughter due to start school soon "sometimes you have to read some books even if it sucks" wouldn't be wise, I think...

It's probably just situations where you have to go with the flow even if it isn't exciting otherwise you might annoy a superior or even just ruin the mood.
