Don't know if we will see more from both the guy or the book (probably not), but I really liked the other book's story (no pun intended).

Reading a book because you want to and being forced to read it, no matter how much of a reader you are, are two very different things.
In my personal experience, that was not really true: it all depended on the teacher and on personal tastes. In middle school, I enjoyed pretty much everything we were given, to the point I went searching for other stuff from the same author (Tolkien, Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Jules Verne...). In high school it was more of a mixed bag: some were good, some were bad, some were a fucking chore. Some I would have never even considered, if not for school, and I would have missed so much; some of the ones I most hated were really liked by my friends, and vice versa.
