She considered "might this lead to her just giving up even more" - but decided that "I can't say anything because at least she's trying something - and it's healthy".

(Also - once the parents die, daughter will be on the streets if she doesn't get a life, and then she'll be miserable anyway, so there is a deadline to it all.)
