For those who want an explanation of as why, Japanese kanji is split into 6 different catagories which is called 六書(りくしょう). The ones that Haruko was explaining is called 象形(しょうけい) where the kanji looks like what its trying to depict. This category only makes up a little around 12% of jouyou kanji. Seeing as 鼻 looks nothing like a nose, it isn't listed in the 象形 category. 鼻 actually is in the category of 形声(けいせい) which is the build up of two kanji, the vague meaning and the onyomi reading (and is the 62% make up for all jouyou kanji). For 鼻, it has 自 for the meaning (which is oneself), and 畀 for the reading (being び). Just wanted to nerd out a bit.
