Maouemi is one part, simply because their relationship and dynamic has been a central focus since the start and even after it became more Chiho-focused, it didn't become Maouchi focused. Maou and Emi were still interacting, still learning about each other, still developing together.
And ofc, there's the fact that basically every other plot point we were building towards also got shafted, rushed and left open-ended??? And that Maou, Emi and Chiho's characters got scuffed and did a 180 in this final chapter??
So no, it isn't just about Maouemi. It's about the author ignoring his own build-up and internal logic to give us this ending. For whatever reason.
