Somebody falling for him is ridiculous? He is living with multiple women who have fallen for him: Nagi (who admittedly started out more in love with the idea that Hayate loved her, but who obviously does have some feelings for him, given her jealousy), Ayuma, Hinagiku, Ruka, A-tan (who has allegedly unfallen for him, and since apparently lost her memory, and became young). And there is at least that one other guy who has fallen for him too.
Also he is apparently now living with Isumi, who had long ago expressed interest in Hayate, but has not seemed to show much interest recently, unless little hints have been lost in translation.
And of course, there is Maria, who has shown interest in Hayate, but seems to perhaps be in denial, or otherwise unwilling to try to pursue this interest.
