I actually covered this point in my reply to the same comment by unclekaos.

Thing is, this manga is more of a commentary about how Japan has, for the better part of a century, regarded the role of a father in their society. Essentially, they're hardly meant to be fathers at all. The only real obligation they have is to make sure the woman they marry pumps out a kid or two, and that the family is financially supported. Otherwise? They're free to do as they please. Even the bit you clipped there is part of the normal expectations of a man in Japan - so long as their legal wife and children are supported, then they can also support a mistress in a house all unto her own, and even their illegitimate child.

And herein lay the real joke behind all those Yoshitobe Abe memes about having babies - the irony of it all was that he expected the men of Japan to keep on doing as "tradition" mandated, and never mind that it was his responsibility to make sure that the economy and the work/life environment actually supports people raising families and not just pumping out children like a facotry.

Uhm, not to be that "uhm, actually" guy, but...

Believe it or not, this was (and still is!) actaully socially acceptable behavior in Japan. It is perfectly allowable for a man to have a mistress so long as she is compensated for "services rendered". Of course, there is the caveate that he needs to make sure that his legal wife and children are financially cared for, first and foremost. This is why the head of the house will pretty much sign over their paychecks to the wife, and out of that she'll grant him an "allowance", knowing full-well he may use the money to pay for a mistress. And putting his mistress up in her own house and paying for the needs of the illegitimate child she has with you counts as "compensation" over there.

Trust me, the mangaka is not dressing this up in a positive light. In fact, you can say that one of the major themes of this title is that it is a commentary on the effect this has had on their society.

One detail I love is the detail look on his mother's face when she snapped and stabbed his father during her rant and her anger!

Notice how SIMILAR Kento (along with sharing his mother's face) was when he broke down once it was CLEAR Camilla had no idea NOR intention to ever send them home and almost went Demon Lord on her, SHOWING she had UNWITTINGLY did the very thing she SOMEWHAT SUSPECTED but never thought about it, what HER ancestors did to the FIRST HERO who went Demon Lord! And was left begging for help when he made it clear what he was going to do to her!

Like Mother, Like Son. Though Kento was luckier then her, Bone Daddy thankfully stopped him before he laid a hand on Camilla. Because you can IMAGINE with no one to stop his mother from what she did to his father, she broke down FURTHER which lead to her suicide from Despair at what she had done! Kento might have suffered the same after he VERY LIKELY tortured and raped Camilla to death once the fog of anger subsided! His mother had NO ONE, he had Bone Daddy, and later his SUPPORT NETWORK!

The best thing his father did other then STAYING THE HELL AWAY is giving Kento a clear picture of "what he was thinking all this time!" At least it will serve as a WARNING to Kento, so that he can HOPEFULLY avoid the same HORRIBLE fate his parents did (Suicide after crossing the Despair Event Horizon for his mother, and a fully broken LOSER of a man like his father, the man will NEVER recover from his failure to be a husband and a father, he made that clear, and he at LEAST made it CLEAR to Kento not to TRY with him.....to give up on him and "move on with his life!" It's sad, but it's for the best for him) Kento has a family now, he even said it that he views his 'father in law" as the father his own Sperm Donor failed to be!
