It's for the same reason as that almost all the MCs in these stories look like the same scrawny 14-year old Japanese schoolboy;

Scrawny Japanese schoolboys are the target audience for stories like this. So the MCs are drawn and written in ways so that they can easily self-insert as them.

And the average mangaka isn't exactly a gymrat either.
