That's a shame that it got the trash isekai anime treatment of let's take popular isekai, give it no budget, and just expect fans to consume it.
Hey, even Overlord got that past season 2, sadly (and we already were seeing elements of it in Season 2 itself), so it ain't just trash isekai that get it.

I don't understand what's happening anymore.
You got the demon lord army, and then they sent in the gold-eyes monsters(?) or some shit, and then we got the human faced monsters out now too, and now you have these orcs?
Also where the fuck is the MC?
If you want MC to save the day, you have to set up a stage to make him look good.

I think gold-eyes monsters were from nearby forest and under control of demon lord, in order to weaken human armies before sending his main troops. The ONI may be part of demon lord's main assault force.

A weak but brave leader is probably better than a strong but cowardly leader
often the weak and brave leaders are better to command and know how to avoid needless battle. they tend to be far more dangerous than the strong leaders who relies on their pure number and strength.

Recapping a bit:
  • It's a three front war, with the fronts at least a couple of days apart. Native forces and heroes are split between the three fronts. Sogou, Yasu and Oyamada are on central front. Central front was supposed to be easier (demon king is on eastern front, not central front), but central front is getting crushed.
  • On central front, demons (mostly ogre types) are coming from the north -- we've only seen glimpses of them (e.g. last panel here and a chapter or two back where they were coming out of a lake).
  • Sogou, heroes and many of the forces are stationed in the castle. North of castle are additional forces, there to receive the incoming demons.
  • Monsters from the central region unexpectedly invade from the south, quickly breaching the outer castle walls. All the fighting that we've seen so far has been with these monsters. And they're crushing everyone.
  • The 2 A class heroes (Oyamada and Yasu) took big hits and fled like bitches. Sogou remains. She has her own group of lower class heroes. Yasu's group has now joined with her group after Yasu abandoned them. (The two A class heroes had unique skills, while Sogou has no unique skill despite being S class. The fighting that she's doing is based off her families martial historical training, plus the training that she's done in this world.)
  • Sogou etc are hoping to move to the north to join up with forces outside, who are presumably in better shape.
  • Only they just now ran into some demons coming from the north -- and carrying freshly harvested human heads. So, the forces north of the castle are screwed too.
  • Of the monsters from the south, the ones that arrived first (from outer edge of monster zone) were strong but defeatable. The ones that arrived later (from deeper in the monster zone) are much stronger and are responsible for most of the wrecking. And one of those monsters has a "scream" that attracts other monsters.
If we were reading this in a Takubon, it would be a bit easier to follow because the mangaka has done a pretty good job of explaining the fronts. OTOH, even with a good job by the mangaka, it's hard to follow because it's tactically complicated, and it's a big battle with multiple named characters (many of them biting the dust).

Dragon boy is with Vicius and they are looking for the demon king.
Yasu fled and want Vicius to heal his hand but I don't think he realize that he's only going deeper into enemy territory if he's going straight to her.

Yasu is like most overpowered MCs anyway: holding up his hand against monster and reciting the skill name, all the while believing that the monster would just stand there and do nothing.

Oyamada and Yasu are A-Rank, not S-Rank.

The moment they turn cocky, they get cut down.

And since she doesn't, but keeps her cool, she gets to live. For now.
