Was there any hints that the guy from the village was an old high ranking position in the army?
If there was, I don't remember it. Honestly the author shouldn't have had "secret backstory character appear out of thin air" and just left it to Emperor Gaizel to rally his troops and break the moral of the invaders who were expecting an easy victory.

Thanks for the chapter!

Get rekt old man. Hope he gets publicly executed.

I don't think there was any such hint... there was however some indications that he wasn't just a simple "villager" in the way he talked and his demeanor, could easily be shrugged of with thinking that he's experienced though, nothing really hinted "Veteran /legendary soldier/warrior" as far as I can tell.

Only that he was not from the village and like the MCs were outsiders who came to live in the village. Imma guess this is one of those things where the novel dropped hints here and there but the manga just didn't have the pacing nor chapters needed to slowly drop them.

I wish she had confided her ability to Gaziel/ML, but... as I really wouldn't in her shoes, well; I can hardly complain, I 'spose!

Luxon is welcome to be further unarmed (like, physically missing hands) before being tied up; you don't want him to escape, nor to be writing any secret messages, and very much not to be able to harm our cute little MC.
She is too precious to be harmed!

I honestly liked the retired Knight-Commander showing up!
Since the King/ML didn't know him, and MC saved his daughter, he's just honestly returning the favor and doing what's right; perfect time for a little "Bread upon the waters" to come to fruition!

All that said, this feels like we're closing in on an ending.
If so, this is probably the right time; nice little wrap-up of the battle/war, and a happily-ever-after with a boy and girl child would be about right. Maybe have the über-knight commanders daughter as their head maid or nanny, and some kind of super trade deal with Racine.
(... probably involving cheese? Racine is where they make decent cheese, right?)
