It seems the author has decided the target audience are readers that don't understand the basics of siege warfare. Sadly, this category is overwhelmingly greater than the ones who DO understand siege warefare.

Thankfully, though they boast the numbers necessary to besiege your group... they lack the tactical ability to do so.

What a well-crafted joke! It was a well positioned and timed joke, which managed to overcome my mental defenses and made me chuckle. Good job!

I only got 4 chapters in, the writing in this is horrendous.

The MC is supposed to be super competent, but the author obviously doesn't know how to write that so they try to make him appear like that by making everyone else so moronic it breaks immersion. And even then, the MC doesn't seem of even average intelligence, just above the rest of every other moron here.
