Mind you, this is the same girl that a few chapters ago was totally fine with sexual exploitation, and even said to woman in charge "you actually saved them, so its not that bad". If there is one thing I cannot handle is lack of consistency, or even worse: "It's totally fine unlit it happens to ME"

i don't hate the arc, but c'mon. He got her DRUGGED. like, that's actually already jail-worthy. Her walking out from that and not calling the cops on his ass is also crazy to me. Like, ok he's not a rapist so he walks out scott-free? what, because he learned that woman want romance sometime? dumb
Until just a couple of years ago getting someone drunk and then screwing them would not have been rape in Japan. Rape had to be forceable. It also was not illegal to record someone in a compromising circumstance and publicly post it. You see so many Blackmail hentai tags since it is more believable than you think.

Japan redefines rape and raises age of consent in landmark move

Japan has passed laws that redefine rape and raise the age of consent in a landmark overhaul of sex crime laws.

The definition of rape was broadened to "non-consensual sexual intercourse" from "forcible sexual intercourse", aligning Japanese law's definition with other countries.

The legal age of consent, previously at only 13, has been raised to 16 years.

Previous laws did not protect those coerced into having sex and deterred reporting of such attacks, critics say.

They have also led to inconsistent court decisions, fuelling calls for change.

The new laws were passed by the upper house of the Diet - Japan's parliament - on Friday. They explicitly outline eight scenarios where it is difficult for a victim to "form, express, or fulfil an intention not to consent" to sexual intercourse.

These include situations where the victim is intoxicated with alcohol or drugs; or subject to violence or threats; or is "frightened or astonished". Another scenario appears to describe an abuse of power, where the victim is "worried" of the consequences of refusal.

...

The changes also ban "photo voyeurism" which includes upskirting and secret filming of sexual acts, among other things.

Much less dark than it could have been. It's a good sign that she thought of Yuusei's trust in her before turning the guy down.

I think the lesson of this arc was that Sumire has principles, and she rejected the easy way out. She's putting her trust in Yuusei and herself. It's nice.
It was only because of her fondness for Yuusei that she is neither a porn actress or a prostitute.

Him getting her drunk basically weakens everything else he says, he could have made his proposal "normally" without that and it would not be any different from any other "sugar Daddy" arrangement out there.

Seems everyone hates this arc, but I find that what the man doing is pretty endearing, no?

He simply states the ugly truth about how society and the showbiz world work, sure it is not the kindest thing to say but it is still the truth nevertheless, and his argument about "pillow business in biz world and normal relations are same" are also not too far from truth. especially in nowadays Japan's society.

It is also true that to get into matchmaking in Japan, men have to state their income, and in reality one of the reasons why Japan has the lowest marriage rate is because women kept demanding higher and higher income rates. (You can watch a recent documentary from "Nobita from Japan"'s channel about this). If matchmaking, dating, and marriage have money give and take as the foundation, how is that different from what this man doing?

To add, he didn't force Sumire and he didn't create a situation where Sumire had to agree with it, he was even willing to start from platonic relations. some say what he did is unrealistic, but in modern society, getting into scandals involving women could destroy your career so what he doing is pretty smart as he wants to establish a clear boundary in a business way to avoid future problems if things goes south.
Bro, what the fuck? He DRUGGED her ass and kidnapped her.

but if you complain about why Sumire doesn't call the police on that, the same question would be applied to why Femme Fatale doesn't call the police on Sumire after she emblazed 3milion Yen, and why Sumire doesn't call the police when her motorcycle get stollen.

I can tell you why because this happens IRL a lot. Femme Fatale isn't going to get ANY money back if she calls the police, alternatively she will lose more money paying lawyers if she sues Sumire. By letting her go, (Especially with her cousin in the mix) she may actually get some of the money back, rarely she will get all of it.

Similarly, I'm not Japanese so I'll preface this by saying that things could be different there; a ton of reports for stolen items get nowhere so it's easy for me to rationalize Sumire not bothering to report her bike.

Unlike the two things we just mentioned, the guy and the waitress are not so subtly implied to have a routine complete with a go-to hotel for women that he invites to that restaurant. If she reported it, other women would very likely come forward with stories of going through that same cycle. Even if he isn't physically forceful once they're in the hotel room, he's already committing a crime to even get them to the hotel.
