maybe he's one of those people who's brain blanks out when they see a variable. That's pretty much the reason there's so many people that suck at math...that and little emphasis being placed on it's purpose, it functioning kinda like a language with the variable being an empty spot in the syntax showing you have to construct "sentences" that can have a real world meaning...and I'm rambling again...
