Some notes for this upload:
  • That concludes vol 1. Each volume, or at least the first three volumes, feature different MCs and different "strange pictures." I guess this last chapter was to introduce vol 2's MC.
  • The way I understand Hen Na E so far, each volume is its own self-contained story, but according to the synopsis, each story is interconnected in some way.

Stepmother? Or just another family with similar situation

blood sugar aside i wonder if it makes a diff, a whole packet is one thing but one piece of candy before dinner isn't that mad but then again when some ppl have some soda with their meal i guess it cancels out

Hm...So we're done with the college student person?

Since its a mystery, I presume that her husband is dead because of the crime in the first volume. We know the truth of the pictures but nothing of the actual crime whereas now she is being stalked and the drawing is presumably referring to a fire that is going to occur.

welp.
ZAMN. She is better looking than I thought she will be. Must be anime level of makeup.

So gonna preemptively leave a comment as I gather the things I think the authour is signaling is a clue.

So following the logic Tsama0 is giving for this being interconnected in some way I think I already have a good idea on how this is linked, with Mystery A being the overarching story and Mystery B being the focus story here are the things I noticed that I think are relevant as clues, that I feel the authour is pointing out. The actual mystery hasn't been pointed out yet but I think we can get a pretty good guess that it is related to the new single mom MC being stalked.

-The authour goes out of his way to point out the stencil ruler
-Mentions twice that the MC is wearing makeup as well as having a character point out it is heavy makeup (even in a work setting)
-The new MC states "I'm being followed again"
-The MC is widowed.
-This one might be nothing but I've noticed that the MC is kind of uniquely tall for a woman (but I'm not too sure about this point), we get a measure of her height in 3 instances against another adult. With both women she is next 2 she looks significantly taller however with the man she appears kind of average height, so this might just be nothing.
-Finally the core picture mystery, the most immediately noticeable thing is the huge smudge. Honestly, not alot to work off of right now but will jump back on this when I think of more stuff.

So to leave a crackpot theory for Mystery A that almost solely hinges on 3 clues, 2 of which is pretty shaky. Going to leave a spoiler here since this would be for Mystery A. I think the current MC is actually Ren from the past mystery. Here is what I'm grounding the theory on; the MC is pointed out to be wearing heavy makeup which could be the case to help hide their identity, the MC I think is pretty tall for a woman, and finally the picture of the husband. Specifically if we look at the picture of the husband he has the exact same haircut as the silhouette we are given of Ren, additionally the opening scene of the chapter is what appears to be a man with a young child visiting a grave, and not a woman which would tie into this mystery but ties very well into what we know about the previous mystery. Additionally, this links into the unknown crimes that Yuki committed as a reasoning for why Ren would need to go into hiding and change his identity.

wait this is a new story? they ended the previous one with kurihara's random ass assumptions, they also never talked about the supposed cake eating 3rd person living with that blog couple
man i sure hope they all tie into an over arching plot or this would be worse than strange house ending

Reading comments here remind me of myself when I am first reading this. Very nostalgic.

So I decide to reread the novel and Is the manga adaptation giving too much exposition? More than the novel version at least. I am pretty sure in the novel it didn't mention makeup this much.

Also translator decide to use
little-Take instead of Take-chan triggers my weeb instinct so hard but then again japanese honorific "chan" also can be used for affectionate person too so little prefix is fine too I guess but² it bothers me so much.
it also makes me think the translator already read the novel.

also one of above comments really trigger my urge to spoil so much it's unreal

As stated above, each story is self-contained in the sense that they focus on different drawings, characters, and events. But, as the synopsis says, "When the mystery is solved, all the incidents will be connected," meaning the different stories interconnect in some way. Having read the three currently available volumes, I can confirm this.

Also,
this mysterious third person will be revealed.

Lastly, I don't think this is much of a spoiler, but
Sasaki and Kurihara do not appear in the next two volumes, but I'd be very, very surprised if they don't reappear in a future volume, seeing how invested they are in Ren's story.

Heh, I'm kinda the opposite. I don't like to assume that readers have any familiarity with the Japanese language (though in all likelihood, they probably do). I prefer not to have Japanese words, including honorifics, in my translations unless it's a name or a word in common use in English. I usually translate -chan as "little" or "my little", -san as "Mr." or "Ms.", -kun as "my boy" or "missy", and -sama as "Master", "Mistress", "Lord", "Lady", etc. I also tend to change names that are too close to English words (hence, Take becomes Takeh, You becomes Yoh...).

Also,
I haven't read the novel, deliberately so because I prefer not to let other translations affect my work, and also I want to be as surprised as anybody else about what's coming next. I've only read the first three volumes of the manga, which end with a hike to the mountains. But I guess it's nice to know I'm on the right track?
