I was right about the grandma/mother situation. I wonder if they'll return to it later, or that was being used to setup that badly constructed houses can push a person to do horrible things, which I assume will be a plot point again later?

As for the new mystery, what could the gears be for. My immediate thought was some sort of torture tbh, I thought the woman was going to see that there was a human trapped in the house.

Anyway if the "water wheel" isn't connected to a stream, then it stands to reason that it's not actually the power-source; the power source must be something else, and the purpose is to turn the wheel, for some reason. ???? well idk

The MC is so cute... in the novel it was hard to read much emotion out of Uketsu's dialogue, but here MC seems significantly affected by how things are turning out, they're looking really sad. Some real mood/tonal whiplash between them and Kurihara (love him) here. I wonder how that'll play out considering it's not about to get any lighter in the next files (I would consider this book Uketsu's darkest, outdoing Strange Pictures). Maybe we'll see them cry?

And there's the suit+glasses fit from the cover! God I want them so bad. It looks somewhat oversized which is cute... they're very small framed when comparing them to Kurihara.

I could have sworn that there's another name for that thing, but google and wiki tells me it's called a "globus cruciger" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globus_cruciger) which is so on the nose it feels like made up Latin.
