This was obvious, I immediately understood that everything would be lost when Cordula said that the year was warmer like if it was something good. They actually needed the snow and cold to preserve the food.

Nice to see that the mention of Cordula at page 12 is accurate, you can notice that it's her design in chapter 3 page 9.

But the highlight was definitively this:
