"I, a C-ranked mage in the guild, will challenge and defeat a boy who joined the guild like a month ago, which will surely improve my family's dignity!"

His impending loss aside, I'll never understand this mindset. Like the Globetrotters taking on a high school team, and thinking the win will make them look good.

The problem isn't he fighting back in trying to take the family pride back... but in doing something that is loosing the honor in using a skill that he shouldn't do in this kind of duel... '-'

Well, hope that mage dude isn't a complete asshole is fading quickly. The quality if this manga isn't high enough for that kind of twist.

Wow, he actually blocked the first attack. That's more than I expected.

"I earned the opportunity to beat you!!"
Well, he's technically correct (the best kind of correct). He earned the opportunity, but not the guarantee.

Ah, yes, of course he has to cheat. As if that would earn him the victory even if he succeeded.

Doing that, Isn't that slapping your own pride as a noble? '-'
That requires him to think about what he's actually doing, rather than being a hotblooded idiot.

"I, a C-ranked mage in the guild, will challenge and defeat a boy who joined the guild like a month ago, which will surely improve my family's dignity!"
It makes sense. It's not about beating someone you can obviously beat, but about not allowing someone below him to think he's equal. Pride is like alcohol. A little will get you into a good mood and able to take on a little bit more, but too much with make you irrational and reckless for reasons that aren't reasonable.

By casting that spell, didn't he automatically lose the duel? It wouldn't matter if his familiar won. Though I doubt that it will matter that the spell is in violation of the rules it'll just be handled. It would be the crushing defeat he deserves.

Better have the funeral for your firebird ready (or better hope it's actually a phoenix).

Dude, you had such a easy joke to make there, like "i bet he's gonna pull out his dyck to fight him".
Sorry had to.
well that sentence doesn't really make any sense to me, sorry that my understanding of how to make jokes in english is lacking
