Hentai avatar

I did mention about this before but some users use hentai avatar and that make me feel uncomfortable like this user https://mangadex.org/user/49565/wolvenworks

I always make sure to hide all smut and hentai contents because I dislike it.
My young cousins are using this site and I am sure a lot of kids use this too so these avatars are problematic. One of the reasons I stop using kissmanga is because of these suggestive images.

I hope you can do something about this and in the meantime I will block those users.

You shouldn't see any hentai avatars iirc, but this level might be fine.
(Personally prefered the bouncy twirly hands gif, but that's mostly bc I cannot keep track of who is who when they change avas like this)

I can't imagine how it can be considered hentai when it's not even arousing.

And if it bothers you because it arouses you, then I don't know what to say. It's just a goofy-looking face. It's not genitalia, nor is it sexual fluids, or anything of that sort.

If that's still not good enough for you, then consider someone who gets aroused or stimulated by bare feet (and yes, they exist, lol). Does that mean avatars displaying bare feet should all be forbidden?

I say let ahegao stay. It looks odd, but ultimately, it is harmless. In my opinion, those kinds of avatars shouldn't be seen as a problem.

@Sola Well said. If I'm not wrong, there's someone with a pfp of a stickman looking at his bouncy stick penis which shows genitals but nobody would get turned in by literal lines. If we go by miyako19's logic, that should be banned too which is stupid because it's not pornographic in any sense. Yes, it's innaproppriate, no it's not a hentai.

@DANDAN_THE_DANDAN Realistically that line of thought means you couldn't use any profile pictures, because anything will be lewded by at least one person eventually, honestly just banning profiles with pictures of genitals or depicting sexual acts would be far enough, any further and you get into the subjective "suggestive" area, where even profile pics like mine, or the bathtub loli, could easily be considered "suggestive", I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

@Valkynaz I don't think anything anime/manga-related can censor suggestive stuffs considering that fanservice is a staple in the otaku culture. I mean, we treat ecchi as entertaintment even if it's basically just softcore porn. And you see fanservice in shounen - and shounen is targeted to young boys. You can see where I'm going with this.

Basically, take it or leave it. Ahegao isn't that bad compared to accidental-boob-grabbing scenes you see in every ecchi anime.

I think you get the point, but it's just a facial expression that's synonymous with either sex or memes, take your poison I guess, just don't google it with safe search off, or duckduckgo/bing, unless you want to see some... spicy content.

Using the excuse "But there are kids who use this website" is dumb. It's not MangaDex's responsibility, but the parents or whoever is in charge of these kids.
And if you dislike hentai or suggestive stuff, then why the hell are you even reading manga? Go read the bible or something.

At some point another topic will inevitably come up about a persons profile again, and we will be discussing the issue. Whether it’s the name (some know what I’m referring to) picture, bio, etc.

if your going to say think of the children, adjust setting and If it’s bothering you that much just block the individual. I say let the individual keep there profile picture. We must be careful of a slippery slope.

@Serkket not sure it would work as there’s suggestive content and violence in the Bible as well.

You are right.

I think the best solution is to maybe implement different settings with varying degrees of what is displayed. Like disabling names, having every user show the default MangaDex picture unless you click on their profile and that type of thing.
This way each user can decide for themselves what exactly they want to see when browsing and reading comments. It's probably a lot of work but it could be done if it's something the admins are interested in catering to.

@Serkket That's honestly not feasible, not even big corporations like Google have an automated system to ban pictures, they rely on users reporting violations to them. And you only need to look at YouTube to see an automated ID flag system is very very flawed and open to abuse. The only thing remotely possible is having the option to block an user's avatar rather than completely blockingevery and any communication with that user. But let's get real, Mangadex runs on donations and I doubt any mod or admin has it as a full time job to code something like that. It's also really bad for any community to hunt down anything that's somewhat "offensive" for someone, I'm pretty sure someone out there takes offense in seeing the japanese goddess of the Sun in dog form using a computer.

I know that sometimes one can use an image to give the appearance of a hentai situation, then once you reveal the "cutout" part, you can see it isn't at all.
