I don’t think it’s necessarily out of place, just very poorly paced.

I feel like the author was caught between taking the story in a much darker direction and keeping the relatively lighthearted tone the series has had up to this point.

If you want to do such an extreme shift, you need more chapters for the audience to adjust. Instead, the whole ordeal was over in two chapters and the resolution didn’t even happen on screen…
