I really thought that guy would accept defeat, it was such an obvious twist but at the same time truly unexpected, still, think he will pay the spirit stones.

This is an interesting development, ability-wise Mo is good and has talent, he is "gullible" and inexperienced but i hope that even if he feels betrayed he doesn't just turn in an asshole for that and i do think he had a good run on the test.

@alacaelum somehow I agree about the betrayal, interesting how the author managed to do that. Really liking how the author has so far managed to keep this feeling very true to the genre while avoiding a lot of bad or lazy storytelling.

I sorta hope that Mo stays pretty nice. Obviously not naive, but just nice. Too many Chinese MCs in popular WN and manhua become borderline psychopaths because cultivation is ruled by the strong, or they were betrayed once, idk, I just don’t find it that interesting anymore.

@Wreavant I agree with about Mo, hope he keeps his nice side but at the same time get a little wiser, just enough that he can react to anything without taking as some mortal offense that must be paid with the blood of his enemy family four generations forward ( i swear that I've read some character in wuxia say something like this )

This series, like you said is depicting its characters with fine subtlety, you can say that there are douchebags, but there is a light side to some of them that really explain why some act the way they act, be that their ambitions or the necessities of their families.

Well it's a testament to this novel that this comment section is this nuanced or reasonable. I was honestly coming expecting to find people just berating the MC or screaming for the senior brother's head on a pike.

I mean it is refreshing to have the struggle keep going even after the MC already got the means to easily reach the top, that way we can do proper character growth.

Its nice of winner guy to promise to pay the full sum even with his sudden but inevitable betrayal. Like Mo, He shows an understanding that needlessly making enemies will lead to many knives aiming for his throat.

Bwahahaha that was toddler like story telling, totally not believable. Mo is exceptionally skilled and quick and somehow he got overwhelmed? Retarded lol. Way too force plot going on here.

What he should've done is cut the neck and move on but I guess that would be boring since that's all he's ever done so far so I guess Author wanted to spice things up.

There's always a chance it won't mean anything and he'll still somehow be chosen. Either that or he'll end up with something even better, or it won't effect him at all and he'll stay under the radar until real consequences to losing show up and then he'll dominate everyone.

@legitname : MC is powerful and see himself as a big enough threat to make deals and have the ennemy respect it.
The marchant is a fool. He made himself the ennemy of someone you should not lost it's trust and hope that money will solve everything. He isn't totally wrong but he messed up this time.

And I find it refreshing to have a hero that isn't totally naive nor the inverse.
He already made deals with the Marchant. And the deal was very advantageous for both of them (more for the marchant than MC) so yeah there wasn't really a reason to not trust him.

I hope MC will be avenged.

@Grim_Reader He didn't follow the agreement tho, 'still paying' a paltry sum after betraying someone and robbing them from what I assume to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Can't exactly call that even, now can you?

Mo really is a naive fucker tho, his 'teacher' already went over the lesson of not trusting your enemies (after cutting him down, ofcourse) I wonder whether he will fall for it a third time or if the experience will stick with him this time.

besides the story, was the art this chapter much more polished? still has that sketchy quality but the borderlines and everything are a lot more well defined. but it works sooo well with the dynamic fighting (the art style) and just the soul/demon cultivating sect angle too.
