@4V29LN0n Well even being low level they still have power common people don't, they may even have a longer life span naturally {dont know that don't quote me on this}, and the truly strong cultivators left plenty of stories about their deeds so people are just going by the fact that they have power but don't know the inner works of their customs and politics. In a way, it doesn't even matter for the common folk, if the person can raise an undead soldier that can tore you apart it doesn't matter if the person is the most lame-ass of cultivators.

The translation 'immortal' is not 100% exact. In the original Chinese, the word used is 'xian' which includes immortalit but the word it self is closer in meaning to saint/sage/god. So in this case all the students of a cultivating school+random cultivators would be considered 'xian' by non-cultivators since they often don't understand the difference.

There will be an arrogant young master but the result is gonna be surprising. Remember unlike other cultivation stories where MC is the underdog with no backing here their sect is one of the big sects with a notorious reputation.

@robotcat I understand the immortal here refers to daoist immortals/xian. I guess I was confused because my only reference point is Gu Master/Reverend Insanity. There, there are non-gu masters/mortals, gu masters/cultivators, and gu immortals. In this chapter, there are also common cultivators in the city, but they are somehow not considered immortals.
