a main character who morality is tossed out the window and a lot of scheming. The great thing about is that unlike other xianxia there are setbacks, the world is cruel and ruthless, and characters aren't one dimensional. It's a really good read

There was one i read ( that i don't know if it is specifically from this genre ) called battle country i think, it is about a guy that dies and reincarnates in another world ( very original XD ) he was a disciple in a martial sect on his previous life and in this new world there isn't, officially at least, martial arts but people use spirits to fight and live. There was a mechanic of absorbing spirt rings from spirit beasts to strengthen your own, the spirit of the mc was a weed ( literally a weed ) and he had a second one a hammer, it got really annoying at some point because everyone was an asshole.

Art was pretty good though.

Might be a little obvious, but I thought the yin/yang imagery on pg 24 was a cool representation of the duality in morals.
