Ken died at least a honorable death. Better than being sliced apart by Akira, or worse, lose control of himself and turn into a demon. But I guess if he did make it back, Yuki wouldn't mind sharing blood with him...

The author really wasted characters, to be honest. Yuki and Nishiyama died for some lame plot reasons, their deaths have had zero impact on the story so far. Kato and the girl still stayed behind on the island. The new characters, personally, I think are less likable than the old cast.
