Thank goodness, I was afraid that it was just gonna be miscommunication hijinks and drama.

Oh wow, that scanlator's note was ridiculous.
He's upset because people are upset their favorite manga got the axe, and he thinks overseas sales could actually impact a magazines decision. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

@northern if you don’t pay anything you have no right to complain it’s that simple. Considering how much legal translates manga there is these days online and how huge crowds are reading pirated, it would obviously make a difference if it actually everyone paid.

Most manga are axed before the first volume is even complete. The chief editor doesn't like the story so out it goes. Others are axed because of a drop in postcard ballot votes, Jump is notorious for this. These are the two most common reasons, and volume sales play no part in it. It's disingenuous to blame foreign buyers for it.
People have a right to complain if a really promising new manga gets axed eleven chapters in, which is the most common time. They may have wanted to purchase the volumes but didn't even get the chance because of a short sighted editorial decision.

We're not talking about most manga. The example that was on r/manga recently was Shuukan Shounen Hachi, a title that fits none of the criteria you mentioned. And it was something people could have easily purchased, right from home. You didn't need to know Japanese. Just click a few times, and it was yours. It is something that can be done. It's not hard. It's not even that expensive. With as many people as we have in NA and in Europe enjoying manga without paying for it, that's a pool that COULD have done something.

But DIDN'T.

Are you honestly saying that they COULD NOT? Because that was my argument, that they COULD. If (a big IF but in the context of my argument, that doesn't matter because we're talking about the possibility, not the probability) they purchased the manga, it would have made the difference. And you're not being honest if you can't see that.

r/manga is cancer and I have no intention of ever going there; but even though you did mention a plebbit thread, you don't actually know if some of those wieners purchased the volumes or not. Can you honestly say that none of them did? Anyway, you then generalized and extend your opprobrium to everyone who complains, and that wasn't fair.

Now I encourage buying manga and supporting mangaka. Over the last decade and a half I've probably given $60k to the industry myself.
But Jump, Weekly Shounen and Sunday have cut short more great stories and destroyed promising careers with their itchy trigger-fingers, and that deserves scorn and outrage from everyone. I encourage complaining over short-sighted axing, lots of it, loud and vocal.

Meh. I don't see why non-japanese readers should buy manga to support the author.
I mean, if a work i like is released where i live (FR), i will obvioulsy buy it, or even get some US manga not available here, but i will not get
a manga when i have a hard time with the language+ the cost being superior of a normal manga.

It's normal to be annoyed about axed manga, especially when we didn't even have a opportunity to support it (except by buying japanese book, i mean).

And i say that when i really liked Shounen Hachi. I would buy it the day it was released in english (or french), but i will not get jap books when it will change nothing.

You don't understand. I'm not saying anyone SHOULD buy it. That's an ethical and moral question beyond what we can discuss. You don't want to buy it? Fine, don't. Can't make you anyway, even if i wanted to, which I most certainly do not. You want to buy it when it gets released in English or French? Great, but I don't care. You do what you want to do. I'm not sure why this extremely simple point is getting by all of you. You obviously can read.

I really don't care if someone says, I like free stuff, I won't pay for a single thing. Great. Or if you put conditions on when and how you'll buy. Not my stuff, so again, I don't care. So don't focus on that if you're going to reply. It just shows that you simply haven't comprehended the issue.

All I am saying is that there are mechanisms in place for a group of consumers to affect the continuation of things they enjoy. I mean, isn't it a rather obvious point? And if you care enough to complain, then you have the ability, if not the inclination, to exercise that power to address the complaint. It's different from complaining about the weather, which is something that we all do. I do it, and you do it. But who can do anything about the weather?

Narrowing it down, if you know someone who have some ability to control whatever misfortune currently afflicting him, but does nothing but complain about, wouldn't it be quite natural to feel disdain toward him? You see, only babies, either literally or figuratively, cry about things beyond their control.
