Honestly, the blame in cases like this lies with the author and their skills. Creating a boy meets girl and they fall in love is all fine, making rivals as well, but the problem arise when they can't keep it balanced, and bring new characters that work better/have better chemistry with the MC, or simply more likeable than the main heroine, and yet they dead set on the first girls wins route. It shows their inability to create a proper story in the genre. Most of this stories would feel a lot more organic if the ending would be based on how things are developing, not the "this end must be the one and i'll shove it no matter what" style. Harem endings are rare, don't know if it's because their so indulged with their own ship, or just the message it sends, though it's not like that the message that you can be the densest shittiest most idiotic character who tramples on everything and can't handle situations properly, yet you'll be all fine in the end is a better at all. By the way the guy cries more than the girl to garner simpathy from the readers are so fucking forced that it's annoying.
Fyi: Kandono loves Edogawa the most? Just accepting a random engagment with a random guy out of the blue in fron of the one you're supposed to be in love with reaaaaly shows you're love. Yeah
At this point it's still more like a friendship stuff than actual love from her part.
