Okay, I genuinely don't know how to feel about this chapter. On one hand, this chapter easily lands as one of the cutest Genderbender/Trans Girl chapters I've read in a long while. On the other, when did Hikaru become a girl!?

Like I know the gender swap was always a thing, but Hikaru has always been a guy forced to be a girl, as opposed to say Kaede. And I know that the whole "forced to be a girl" is a core trope in GB works, but usually the character in question actually likes being a girl and is merely in denial.

The best comparison I can think of is contrasting Ranma and amnesiac Ranma. Same person, same curse, but you can just tell one is a guy cursed to be a girl and the other is a girl cursed to be a guy.

thats the whole point of the story. since chapter 1 it has been established that hikaru will be oppressed by family matters.
it wont ever be the main characters choice alone to be female here.
there is the contrast of asuka, the guy from the rival ninja family, who embraces being female to the point to genuinely developing a crush on the male hikaru in chapter 12.
the brutality of which hikaru gets forced to being a girl by his father and his rival alike either way can be rather off putting. he almost looses his male identity in the process.
the genderdwap is basically a hostile act on the main character.
