@Bluebug fascinating. Fiction usually portrays them either reading (or if its a case of strict old lady, the type that merely shuts the noisemakers up and sleeps on the job). I used to frequent the library during my school days but I've always felt there's a difference depending on the size of a library. A small private HS library (my old HS was run by nuns), portrayed both cases in the first half of my comment since it was a small library. My university days on the other hand, the chief librarian was my aunt so for me, it felt natural to talk to her (but it was mostly me being someone she could talk to while on the job. Apparently, despite her having the highest authority, on both cases of my bachelor/post graduate studies in 2 different colleges, I had this weird tension where the head librarian has a weird boundary between her staff. or it might just be me)
