I'm guessing that the current Prince is a shapeshifting assassin that got amnesia. If he was anything other than a perfect copy the princess would have noticed.

Doesn't have to be amnesia. Could be the princess finding out the plot, so to her the assassin is her hero/prince for saving her. Which is why she said to her, the current one is the real prince.

probably a repeat of chapter one, assassin comes in to kill the princess, the prince accidently gets killed, the princess convinces the asssassin to take his place
