If you are reading Himegasaki for an ongoing romantic epic then I don't know what to tell you, its always been a 4-koma joke series and this "drama" is yet another skeleton to hang gags off of, which this chapter is packed with. Its amazing to see people treating the series mocking generic rom com cliches as fully sincere with not a hint of irony.

Just laugh at the funny faces. I mean earlier this year Cune bundled an acrylic stand with that months copy, which the series was the cover of. The last Volume released had exclusive extras with loads of different stores. Theres another standee with Sakurako dressed as someone who works at Gamers. Its one of Cunes most popular series and unless something major happens its not going anywhere.

That stand is sitting on my desk right now btw

Its a gag series were the joke is going over stereotypical romance scenarios and either play then strait, lampshade then or turn then around.

Let me put this way, how important is to a relationship the previous relationships? Romance series, especially one for this target age are often very "pure" ... often first love, almost always first kiss, usually tension being misunderstandings ...

Also look at her reaction, Himegasaki looks confused ... she isnt angry or sad, she is confused because that is a natural reaction, he just told her that he kissed another girl out of the blue with no follow up ... he isnt breaking up, there is no context ... just a declaration and that it.

How exactly is she suffering?

And how much weight are you giving the first kiss? even high school students likely kissed before ... she knows their relationship and a lot of the gags are because she is gender savvy and recognizes Sasaki as the typical romance heroine, in a typical romance series Natsuki would go for Sasaki, not Himegasaki and that been the gag ...

Himegasaki shouldnt be the heroine, Sasaki is the heroine but she isnt because this is not a manga.

This is a series that is lampshading that romance series are often unrealistic, that characters have reactions just to advance the plot in a direction that isnt how most people would act, Natsuki not wanting to say anything is a example because in a typical romance series, Himegasaki would find out ... it would be a entire arc (like its now) about it, the imaginary reactions are also pretty much how characters would react, maybe the joke didnt land but that was the joke.

Why people read a gag series that is all about lamphadring romance tropes as its a romance series is beyond me ...

How many romance series the main couple get together and then everything trying to have then break up? This is usually the progression because what else you going to do with the story?

She even goes about that after they start dating, Sakurako sees that she is a "loser heroine" as Sasaki being the heroine, that they started dating is simply another step of romance series were either the male or female lead start dating someone and then break up later.

The only way Sakurako would win a typical manga is it ended after Natsuki confessed because that is how romance series typically end ... they get together, there is a epilogue chapter and its over, the end.

Seriously, chapter 33 have the volume 5 into that includes the character introduction, the very first character is Sasaki, then Aki and then Natsuki, Sakurako is the last entry as if she is a side character ... even the story synopsis almost writes her off and its entirely as if Sasaki is the main heroine.
