Good thing the misunderstanding between MC and his mom got cleared up quickly. Otherwise, things could’ve gotten pretty messy later. and now I’m really curious about the flashback from MC’s mom about their father, especially since it was intense enough to make Yuzuru pass out because she couldn’t handle hearing it :dogkek: and I feel like Yuzuru’s mom and his father got married because of politics or business reasons, not because they actually loved each other.

It's totally weird how both the families are not acting as bitter as I thought they'd be. They're more like "Hahaha.. So our man had another family behind our back? Well that sucks. We still love him tho." But I'm more interested in how the audience gonna react to the incest ending like they never saw it coming.

well, it's Naoomi and Suzu specifically acting like that.

It would seem that the rest of Suzu's family are decidedly more enigmatic at the moment on where they stand, though that's also because we met them all once and it's been 3 chapters. It absolutely goes much deeper than what we've gotten, and that foreshadowing at the end makes me think that even Suzu & Naoomi's perspectives on their father won't stand the test of this "investigation".

I rather like that this is apparently being recounted/narrated from some point in the future by Naoomi. I hope that's actually the case, and that we might even get "present day" moments of an older Naoomi talking with someone (in-setting who stands in for the reader) like this is a memoir of some sort.
Not very likely that's the case, and this is just some past-tense narration for the reader directly from the character. But it does add that extra layer of spice when we get those cryptic bits of monologue like at the end of the chapter, talking about how he'll come to regret ever making this bet.

Definitely cuts through the surface-level silliness of their antics together, and reminds us that this will almost certainly get way murkier and heavier than even the premise would promise us.

Watching the mom go on a two hour spiel about her romcom with a two timer is wild.

I'm glad she managed to apologize, though.
She might not had known of his other family, but she still wanted to express her remorse at such an unfortunate situation.

I wonder how that bet is going to fail spectacularly.

I agree, I really like the mom character. She is so tiny, but her heart is so golden and big. She even let Naoomi to live at his father's family house, knowing that he will be much better off there than living with her. Truly a mother on the level of Rintaro's mom from "Fragrant Flower".

It makes me even more angry at Naoomi for just rushing out of house and leaving her alone in Chapter 1 like that. Poor mom had to cope with news of her husband's death and being worried sick for her only child.

Seem like the dad's life was basically Harem Shonen Protag, and this manga is basically the epilogue/sequel of this supposed story...

Alright, my guess. This girl has light hair, everyone else in that family has dark hair but the mom. Even the unknown son has dark hair, whose mom also has light hair.

MCs mom is the women his dad fell in love with. His wife is, I'm assuming, who was arranged to marry him. The twist? They both had partners on the side.

She won't be his sister because his dad isn't her dad. They even make a one off comment about her also having another man, and I think that was the author setting it up.

They got into an arranged marriage, but they both had their lovers and probably even agreed to it. Mom even says she'll be too busy with work to notice the MC around, the same excuse the dad was using when he'd visit his other family. Their investigation will turn this up, which means he loses the bet.

Nice, they sit next to each other in school. I can't wait for when one of them inevitably gets jealous of the other for having an admirer. I haven't seen the tea preparation misunderstanding before; cute how Yuzu sniffed the boyfriend Onii-chan shirt.

You’d be surprised how common this is in real life especially when the cheater is dead. My grandfather had two families and we only found out about each other after he passed. We’re family regardless.

Yep, especially in Japan, where people can get extremely busy. For a man, having a second family under the guise of endless business trips would be easy if he has the circumstances to pull it off, and even for a woman, with how much time many men spend working, wouldn't be hard.

Hell, just two weeks ago, a news story broke about a woman who had been living a double life for a decade: she had a lover she'd been seeing since the 90s while also being married to a man she met at work in the 2010s, and the only reason it was discovered was because she killed the lover with the help of his mother and later confessed to her husband (over the years, the lover had become such an arrogant leech that even his own mother couldn't stand him anymore, lol)

So yeah, dirty secrets in Japan are easy to hide.

Is this supposed to be "loan sharks" on page 22 or is this referencing a half-shark half-Yakuza hybrid or something?

Land Shark is most likely correct. My guess is they're trying to bully her grandma into selling her shop to them so they can acquire the land.

From some cursory searching, the term "land shark" or "landshark" hasn't been in common usage for well over a hundred years. It still feels like an odd translation choice.
