Early chapters said they're "looking" for the wasp right? I mean I get it if it's there something like hunters(Sam/Dean) from Supernatural where they literally hunt the supernatural which seems obvious from the gear they put on when they get the facts of the case. H.O.W.E.V.E.R. If its not that way, this just got dumb.. Cops take forever with normal murders, all the sudden connecting all the dots in a "supernatural" murder.. Hahaha, yeah right! It blows my mind, they found something that's apparently untraceable(leaves no evidence) but still linked it to Wasp-Woman?? Yeah yeah.. it's all for plot totally get it. Just throwing it out there..

Apparently, the normal police in chapter 2 did indeed not find anything. The one doing parallel investigation might've encountered similar cases before, hence the similar death pattern, and might've learned that the possible cause of death was from a wasp, from a specialist in the field (who might've been the one who gave him the sample wasp, or not -- he might've found it himself, and then went to the old man to see if he knows anything).

Good call! The chapter after you mention it, she has a moment where she realizes how weak being normal makes her and tries to kick it up a notch. Here's hoping she can develop her character into a psycho faster than the government can shoot high school girls, but if addressing a problem with a character right after someone points it out isn't a sign of good pacing then I don't know what is.

I usually take it as: after the author finished writing, they realized they fudged up, and now try to fix up their mess.
That is to say, there was no thought put into the character, and when shit breaks you can only try to glue it back together post-facto. I don't take it as a good thing, just like how in Made in Abyss --

-- The MC constantly makes stupid mistakes, even though she's a walking encyclopedia of the Abyss, and has to be constantly rescued. The only reason the plot can continue, is due to deus-ex-machina and plot-armour. After 7 anime episodes, she's being taught by a veteran how to survive in the Abyss.
But at that point, you can see that the author placed absolutely 0% thought into their characters, and tried to fix them up only much later after the fact.

That being said, just for the sake of conversation, I don't think that badly of this manga. I don't think the MC will ever turn into a "psycho", that cannot be helped anymore. I can only guess she'd become a slightly competent beta-MC, as they usually do.

A fair point, I like to think that stuff happening as early as five chapters in was planned from the start but it certainly wouldn't be the first case of an author flying by the seat of their pants on a manga concept when they've got editors to work with and deadlines to meet, so you've got the more realistic view.

Either way, I've got high hopes. As stupid as some most all of Murata Shinya's works are, they usually manage to be entertaining, and this has been the most interesting concept I've seen from him.
