Funnily enough, it works in his favour. After all, he's someone who genuinely wants to do well by his citizens... Even if his motive isn't pure, but actually just to fuck over his father. So the abandoned and the castaways quite eagerly flock to his banner because he's someone they know is interested in developing the territory and its people.

i really love the energy in this manga, like both of you're absolutely right, he's definitely going about his goals in the right way, but there is something deeply wrong with him [affectionate, love to see it] and everyone can see it, this encounter is really interesting because like, it's not that he picks up on their resentment right away, but as soon as it clicks, he empathises because he feels the exact same way.

tbh props to the expressions bc hooooooooooooo those eyes are chef's kiss on conveying his mentality. I loved seeing them get unnerved from how off kilter he was.

Also, i only noticed it rereading through before commenting, but there's a surprising amount of blank background panels in this manga, not surprising given the deadlines, but it does stick out once you start noticing it. Like for the most part, there's a good use of like, screentones throughout, and it definitely contributes well to the mood of a scene, but sometimes it just feels like there's a little something missing.

tldr: yes, the best revenge is to live happy and healthy in spite of things, but this boy sure ain't healthy!

I would have dropped this already if it was isekai. It would have completely ruined the story because it would be another interesting story except they just half ass added in a isekai in the beginning in which the story would have better benefitted from being just a fantasy story. I like it and maybe you don't but I think its definitely interesting so far.

I've seen this a fair bit, the backgrounds thing. And I agree with you, some of the panels could have done with background. But, as you say, deadlines are fucking harsh (and the industry is very much a sweatshop one... Although that can be said for a fair bit of the comics industry overall.)

Anyway, yes, for people who think he's a clown... Read on. The boy is twisted, but it's how he's twisted that makes him a good lord.

• I will make this territory good, despite the fact he obviously sent me here as a death-sentence-by-any-other-name.
• This will force my father to recognise and acknowledge me, which will embarass the hell out of him and likely kill him socially, because his bastard son is doing better than he is. And will also show him that he was stupid to not recognise a talent that was right under his nose.
• I will also be happy with my rabbitkin not-wife, as an aside.

The same kinda revenge you have with a high school bully. In a few years they'll be working at the gas station while you're making 60k a year fresh out of your Bachelors.

Not the usual type of revenge but honestly a nice change of pace for a person as fucked up as our MC.

It's trying so hard to be edgy, but different!™️ and its just coming out as bad writing. I'm sure this is a WN to LN to manga adaption with how bad the pacing is.... I wish authors would just skip the cliche Intro/setup at this point, we all know how the first 3-5 chapters will go and they usually have no bearing on the story or plot anyway.

if you ask me, don't do it, revenge manga is a bad foundation, after the mc got his revenge, then what? the story will be stuck, and if you don't meet the readers expectation, then your story will be doomed.
i know how hard it is, but if you still want to do it, then this is my opinion :

• built the backstory as bad as shit that can get enough sympathy from the readers, but don't do it too long
• make the mc as calm as possible, but can change his/her expression 180° if needed
• don't make the mc have a naive mindset, but don't make them too brutal too, you need to do it balanced
• make the story as consistent as possible (this is one of the hardest part)
• don't prolong the revenge, when the time is right, do it ASAP, but don't do it too fast too, you need to boil reader's blood as hot as possible then BOOOM release their anger, if you not release their anger, then the readers will release their anger to you, and if you do this more than once, you're doomed, your manga will be dropped, and it's your manga's end, you need to create a new one
• revenge is not about killing only, you need to read the readers mind to get the most satisfactory revenge, ex : fuck the revenge target, fuck the revenge target's relative, make their family fall, destroy their business, public humiliation, etc.
• make the story as logical as possible, because if the readers didn't get it then it's a waste, ex : if the character is still a kid, then don't make them crossing the line, sometimes i read manga about middle schoolers doing bullying to mc with method that not even crossed my mind, like burned someone alive but not even feel guilty, the kids have more influental than the adults, etc...
• make the best plot twist, because it'll be boring super fast if you just follow the flow, don't make the readers can read your next move, this require the mc and the villain to be smart, and of course you need to work your brain very hard
