I’m surprised it took this ding-dang long for Hanzawa’s homophobia to come up.
It’s directly mentioned in the novel (not a great novel! I like the story, but half of it is narration of banal events like the contents of their homework and all narration is really flat and boring)

Man finagled himself into doubling the touchy-feely time.
20 seconds total was NOT the deal.
Then he started taking turns at it sometimes, unilaterally (with mixed results, because dude clearly isn’t wired for taking charge).
Now he’s acting like it’s obvious that they touch for 20 seconds total.

Dude is somehow gaslighting himself into more homosexual activity and more denial at the same time.

…different circumstances, but wow that last sentence is relatable.

Spoiler: In case people have not read SasaMyaa

In these series we have one bi character (Miyano), three gay ones (Kagi-kun, Hanzawa’s brothers), straight people who react to queerness in all the different ways… I keep harping on this but Harusono sensei CARES about representation.
You can see that become more and more of a thing as SasaMyaa goes on and becomes less “a BL about BL“, and more “here are two normal boys falling in love.”
A switch flips the page after they kiss. It instantly stops having BL structure and trappings and is just a slice of life dramedy about a homosexual couple.

Even early on Sasaki’s stupid friend (whose name I can’t remember) asks “You’re not homos/a homo?” and later Miyano says “I’m not. I Had a girl I liked, so I’m not. But when I’m with senpai my chest hurts, so maybe I am. All of a sudden I feel scared/nervous/confused. (Fuan is a vague term. Any translation works there, imo.

There is that scene on the overpass walkway thing where Sasaki says he doesn’t think he “likes men and stuff” and replies “I don’t think so… I just feel ‘i really like him’ when I’m with you. I can’t explain it”. which smacks of BL-ass “you’re the exception”, though it’s not like we’ve seen any indication Sasaki has been into anyone before. Just that he likes Miyano-esque faces.
Maybe he’s pan with a type? I don’t know. I hope it’s addressed when he’s lightly confronted by his college friend, because that scene pisses me off.

I think it would definitely serve the story better. Not that I'd hate it if everything eventually 'clicked' for him and he was able to view love and stuff the same as most people, but him actually being aspec adds a LOT of valuable poignance to Hirano's behavior and KagiHira's relationship. Personally for me all that matters is that they end up becoming boyfriends, whether it's touchy-feely or not, though as someone who isn't that big into physical affection themselves it'd be refreshing to see a romance that's not heavily reliant on that. (Not ace myself - unless demisexual counts? - or too familiar with the spectrum, just prefer my own space lol)

This is probably the only thing that ever bothered me in SasaMyaa. No disrespect to sensei at all as I have no doubt she cares about the sensitivities of sexuality, but every time a character just has to do the whole "I'm not gay, but..." thing it feels like some weird copout, like the author is too afraid to make the guy (usually the 'seme') admit he doesn't like women so that he... doesn't lose attractiveness in the eyes of the straight female audience or something? (In some cases it feels like pure bi erasure but considering Miyano's character there's no way that's it in ssmy.) I don't really get why it hasn't been explained further yet, like sure it doesn't matter as much since they're dating already, but still. If Sasaki is simply incapable of pinning down his preferences then I'd like for there to at least be a reason for that instead of it being swept under the rug forever. A yaoi-esque cliché like that doesn't really fit into the introspective, thoughtful nature of the series imo.

I don't know, it's 3am and this is all tinfoil rambling. Hopefully I didn't come across as insensitive or rude in any way, ultimately it's a very minor and petty gripe that in no way affects how much I admire sensei's work.

In the flash-forwards they have no physical contact, though Hirano did specifically prevent it once, so it seems to be kind of “a thing”, even if it’s just hugging or whatever.
My wife is aspec and “only if the mood and energy and stress levels are aligned” is a mood.
A lot of people put demisexual under the ace umbrella, but that’s not my monkeys not my zoo.

I do think the college friend finding out is in part a means of bringing his whole situation up with a new person.

Much like the new guy added (basically retconned) to Miyano’s friend group. He seems to be there to be “Mr. Internalised Homophobia“. (Geez does that look like it is gonna get AWKWARD)

I own on pixiv, but have hidden from my shelf a manga where a guy says he’s straight (but…) while his boyfriend whom he lives with and is now co-parenting with him is mounting him. Dumbest shit and that’s why it’s hidden.

I have been guilty pleasure nostalgia trip reading old, basic-ass BL recently. Oh, the hand-waving we used to need to do to read BL! Back in the era of YAOI Hands…
There’s stuff I drop like a hot potato because it crosses a line but oh, to be young again! To be able to walk quickly without my knee or hip going out!
