basically it's as throughtfull as giving an amazon gift card to her.
sure it's still free stuff but he's not even putting any effort into it. as she says, she doesn't need stuff, she has an issues with hoarding stuff, she NEEDS to get rid of stuff so giving her more stuff is conterproductive, a bouquet ( not roses of course, but something cute like sunflower or tulips) or some sweet would have been much better
