I think I can accept this ending. Ultimately it is about change: the characters that could change for the better got happy endings, and the characters that couldn't ended up with the bad outcomes, and that's a reasonable message in context of it all.

It would have been extra neat to see one of the good-change characters figure out the paradox of tolerance and actually kill Akiba, but it's called a paradox for a reason and there's only so much to expect from a bunch of teens.

Overall, wild manga, definitely worth a read if only for the psychological and philosophical introspection mixed with such grueling emotional beats.

I was conflicted the entire way through about who I was actually rooting for - at times I felt like Akiba could've been on the path to redemption, at others I just leant into the "this guy is absolutely fucked up, and that's okay. It's a story." and even up to the last few chapters, I still thought it would be an interesting ending if he "won". It was a generally well-written manga that clearly earns its mass number of "1" scores by the subject matter, by making the "MC" an irredeemable, evil, abusive, jerk - I don't think that's deserved, I wouldn't watch or read something that I knew I wasn't going to like, and review it poorly based on that. A review should assess the quality of the work. But I get it.

Ultimately, I think it was the best possible ending. The focal characters get their happy ending, get to move on with their found family/friends, while the background characters fulfil our desire to see Akiba die and take on that burden that would otherwise have had to sit with out main group - and with the limited characterisation they had, it was still satisfying to see them get their revenge.

Overall, 9/10.

Also, the genderswap tag has been applied to manga with far less genderswap lmao, I have no idea why it was missing here.

Thanks for the translation. Sadly the chapters were removed from mangadex so I had to read it on an alternative website.
Ending is somewhat mid. It is almost satisfying but it falls short andcould have been so much better if the mangaka actually had some guts.

Sure, akiba got his deserved punishment, however he was just of the villains in this story.
Adachi, at least, got a 3 day long torture punishment but nothing permanent. Got over it very fast. She also barely changed. The pig is still accompanying the group which means she still enjoys to inflict pain. And Machi the slaverbrat got away scot-free, although he inflicted even more damage to his slaves than akiba, even outside of the game.(forcing them to masturbate in public and forcing them to rip out each other's hair)

It annoys me that it was the ex slaves which performed the assassination. If the mangaka had any dignity and guts, this would have been performed by one of the main character. However this would have made them murderers, therefore the mangaka chickened out. Instead it was the ex-slaves who did the stabbing although they have barely any motive for this. Akiba denied them the revenge on slaverbrat. So what. If this is enough for them to become murderers then they will most definitely kill again. The only satisfying fact is, that their next target will be slaverbrat.

6/10 from me. Somewhat enjoyable manga. But only somewhat. And the ending is lacking.

That's kinda bullshit don't you think?
Adachi didn't really change that much. She was responsible for several actual deaths and still sexually assaults the heroine and enjoys to inflict pain.
We don't know if slaverbrat changed all that much, however he was as much of a villain as akiba was. Hopefully he will get also stabbed by the ex-slaves off screen.

Even if mass murderers want to change, it doesn't remove their past sins.
