really makes you wonder sometimes.

I know that lots of game dev's would make fictional towns and cities to avoid drawing parallels that could become an issue later even when the setting is 'inside japan'.

though there is also a trend of authors etc that would just randomly grab "foreign sounding names" too without being aware that certain names paired with certain character tropes/appearances could also step on a landmine, or worse, they do so knowing it will cause an issue...
