Japan doesn't want anyone to have any fun. The coasts do their best in the US to make it as hard as possible to restrict getting guns or a concealed carry permit. It all depends on the counties who allow or deny the permits. I don't own a gun myself, but I always wanted to try skeet shooting.

How indeed... How did I learn how to make babies? Surely my parents didn't tell me. Seriously how did I learn that?

but from what I read about this if hunters in real life put scopes in their slug shotguns, it's because there's a use in it.
And, yet, the vast majority of shotgun hunters don't use magnified optics on their shotguns to hunt. And just because some people think it's useful or wise doesn't mean it is. I've seen instances of people going hunting with Saiga-12s and Benelli M4s and FN SLPs at the like thinking it was a good idea (it wasn't). The very small minority of shotgun hunters with magnified optics likely aren't onto something and are just overestimating their need for magnified optics at the terrific ranges of about 100 yards or less or they think they're more capable than they really are. I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, but I will stand by and justify that it's a bit silly to do so because your ranges you're shooting at are too limited to make use of much magnification and your shotgun is not capable of matching what your scope is. And if you ARE going to put glass on your shotgun... there are much, much, much better alternatives for the money.

Just because his scope looks like a sniper scope it doesn't mean it's locked to have super high magnification
Misuse of "sniper" aside, that's exactly the point of a LPVO. Which, at least if he is using one, is somewhat justified in that it would be able to go from 1x to... whatever... and are just as functional reflex/red dot sights.

And both of them were recommended to be used in slug shotguns
Literally neither of them are recommended in the article you linked. They are both rifle scopes (and they mentioned Trijicon reflex sights (which, admittedly, is a good choice for a shotgun) - not magnified scope optics... not to mention the thought of having a scope with about 3 inches of eye relief at maximum is a terrifying thought on a 12 gauge shotgun). And both are frankly still overkill and too high of a magnification even on their lowest setting. The one scope that they do recommend is this optic which is modified from Leupold's muzzleloader optic and uses a reticle optimized for shotgun slugs. Also notice... they they don't make or sell it anymore. Probably because not that many people were buying it.

Random thought- Why hasn’t the guy gotten an extended tube mag, like an 8 round tube extension, for his 870? He’s no longer restricted by gun laws in Japan, and I feel like he’ll need it incase he’s found a hoard of something, and spending time trying to shove shells in the tube could put him at a lot of risk. I can see some arguments over it might off balance the gun compared to what he’s used to, but honestly it’s not like he’s trying to do some insane skeet shooting when he’s trying to hunt monsters.

LOL the goddess is a part-timer. She probably experienced something like in 'Hataraku Maousama'. And boy! 2 chapters and they're already making babies. I'm glad it didn't take 200+ chapters for even a confession.

Forget about this, we need the spinoff of goddesses trying to support their victims heroes by throwing whatever's at their workplace at them. "Sure, I'm the goddess of the candy vending stand at the mall, but at least you didn't get HER... all she deals in is all-natural organic fertilizer..."

The French Gendarmery had a scope on their revolver (https://youtu.be/P1zEUGck8NE)
Putting a scope on a rifled shotgun using slugs doesn't seems too far of a stretch

If you're the goddess of that world why summon a random hunter who isn't a hero?

...And? That's not odd at all.

I don't recall saying no one has ever done it, I questioned the usefulness and wisdom of doing it. Even a 4" barreled revolver is going to be miles more accurate and consistent at 150 yards than even a rifled barrel shooting slugs. At 200 yards, you're basically utilizing Kentucky Windage.
Meanwhile, something like a .44 Magnum round actually has external ballistics that you can rely on and use optics for and - this is the important part - effectively zero with. Is it the best tool for the job? Of course not. Can it actually be done and relied upon to a degree? Yes.
