@entity_101
but from what I read about this if hunters in real life put scopes in their slug shotguns, it's because there's a use in it.
And, yet, the vast majority of shotgun hunters don't use magnified optics on their shotguns to hunt. And just because some people think it's useful or wise doesn't mean it is. I've seen instances of people going hunting with Saiga-12s and Benelli M4s and FN SLPs at the like thinking it was a good idea (it wasn't). The very small minority of shotgun hunters with magnified optics likely aren't onto something and are just overestimating their need for magnified optics at the terrific ranges of about 100 yards or less or they think they're more capable than they really are. I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, but I will stand by and justify that it's a bit silly to do so because your ranges you're shooting at are too limited to make use of much magnification and your shotgun is not capable of matching what your scope is. And if you ARE going to put glass on your shotgun... there are much, much, much better alternatives for the money.
Just because his scope looks like a sniper scope it doesn't mean it's locked to have super high magnification
Misuse of "sniper" aside, that's
exactly the point of a LPVO. Which, at least if he is using one, is somewhat justified in that it would be able to go from 1x to... whatever... and are just as functional reflex/red dot sights.
And both of them were recommended to be used in slug shotguns
Literally neither of them are recommended in the article you linked. They are both rifle scopes (and they mentioned Trijicon reflex sights (which, admittedly, is a good choice for a shotgun) - not magnified scope optics... not to mention the thought of having a scope with about 3 inches of eye relief at maximum is a terrifying thought on a 12 gauge shotgun). And both are frankly still overkill and too high of a magnification even on their lowest setting. The one scope that they do recommend is
this optic which is modified from Leupold's muzzleloader optic and uses a reticle optimized for shotgun slugs. Also notice... they they don't make or sell it anymore. Probably because not that many people were buying it.
